All Hallows’ Eve (aka Halloween) is a Gaelic tradition, originating in the United Kingdom. ‘Hallowmas,’ as it was known, was the day before ‘All Souls Day.’ In the middle ages, peasants and beggars would dress in costumes and go door to door, praying for the souls of the dead.
