In 2012 I made a life changing decision to move from Aspen Colorado back to Portland Maine. I had spent the previous 11 years exploring the West and uncovering its hidden virtues, but suddenly I felt like being closer to family was the best move. Even though I’ve tried to bring my western ideals to the East’s rocky coast, I still dream of desert landscapes and the continental divide.

This trip to the southwest started out as a party cruise to Las Vegas Nevada, but slowly evolved into an epic backpacking adventure through Utah’s first and most breath-taking National Park…
