Winter this year in the Rocky Mountains started off a with a bang, and still hasn’t quit. Before this most recent storm, Aspen had received over 70 inches of new snow since the lifts closed on April 24th. Everyone put away their ski gear, and readied their thong flip flops for warmer days. Unfortunately, Mother Nature can be a salty old cuss. This photo shows a quick break in the clouds yesterday evening, before snow, rain, and cold temperatures resume for the weekend.
Independence Pass has been scheduled to open on May 26th for Memorial Day weekend. Click HERE for more details. Aside from CDOT road crews working overtime on both the Aspen and Twin lakes sides, the Aspen Cycling Festival is still scheduled to go off. Competitors involved in the annual Ride for the Pass race will have to battle icy conditions as well as other cyclists. Click HERE for more info from the Aspen Daily Online.
